Beverly, MA, nonprofit receives 3 years of funding from the Cummings Foundation
May 25, 2023 – The Heathmere Center for Cultural Engagement is one of 150 local nonprofits that will share $30 million through the Cummings Foundation’s major annual grants program. Heathmere will receive $30,000 over three years. The Beverly-based organization was selected from 630 applicants during a competitive review process.
The Heathmere Center, founded in 2018, aims to cultivate and nurture stronger communities on Boston’s North Shore by empowering the voices of the youth and the historically marginalized through dialogue and education. By working with community partners and local institutions, Heathmere develops collaborative and creative dialogue programming that centers youth’s abilities and dreams to build more equitable communities.
This generous grant will allow Heathmere to launch the Dialogue Youth Corp, in partnership with other Beverly organizations. The Dialogue Youth Corp will provide leadership and civic engagement opportunities for under-served Beverly youth in grades 8-12, who will be paid a generous stipend. Currently, no program exists in Beverly that supports youth through training and experience in civic engagement in a way that centers the ideas and agency of the marginalized youth and connects them with local leaders and organizations.
We extend our utmost thanks to the Cummings Foundation for this award and for entrusting Heathmere with grant money that will enable us to work to fulfill our mission to support local youth to use their talents and passion for social change.
